Kirsten Mosher’s paintings are insights into the urban sprawl. Both cruel and naive, her works recycle the style of cartoons for entirely different ends and purposes, detourment with a fine sense of humour. The artist often starts with motifs borrowed from the existing city landscape. She picks on particular buildings, road sign systems or nondescript industrial zones. These bits of reality are then radically changed - mixed and ”sampled” on the surface of the painting, they melt into architectonic entities reminiscent of a bird’s - eye view of a run-down factory or a stage set for a strange old sci-fi movie.
